The Spokane and Spokane Valley area is the hub of the Inland Northwest, and demand for pole barns, contractor shops, and agricultural buildings across Spokane County and surrounding counties has remained strong.
Spokane County’s climate creates specific engineering requirements. The county sits in a snow load zone where ground snow accumulation is a genuine structural consideration, and buildings need to be engineered to handle those loads reliably. Every SSA building in the Spokane area is individually engineered to meet or exceed the ground snow load requirements for its specific location, using Washington-licensed engineering professionals who understand the region’s demands.
Wind is also a real factor in exposed locations across Spokane County, the West Plains, and the Columbia Basin. SSA’s engineering accounts for both snow and wind load requirements by site, not by a generic regional estimate. Buildings going up on the windswept West Plains near Cheney or Airway Heights face different structural demands than those in the sheltered Spokane Valley, and our engineering reflects those differences.

Pole Barns Across Eastern Washington
SSA’s Washington service area extends well beyond the Spokane metro. Eastern Washington covers a substantial and varied landscape, from the Palouse hill country to the Columbia Basin flats, the Yakima Valley orchard country, the forested mountains of Stevens and Pend Oreille Counties, and the high desert rangelands of Grant and Adams Counties. Yakima County’s permit requirements are administered through Yakima County Public Services. Post-frame buildings in Yakima County require building permits with engineering documentation showing compliance with applicable snow and wind load requirements. SSA’s Zillah team manages permit submissions for Yakima Valley clients and is familiar with local code administration.

SSA owns Metal America and offers more than 50 colors and specialty finishes for metal siding and roofing. This includes standard painted steel in colors from ash gray to charcoal, as well as specialty printed finishes including barnwood, brick, and other decorative options. Two-tone combinations with wainscot accents are popular in Washington and give buildings a finished, polished look.
Overhead Doors
Your overhead door configuration matters as much as your building dimensions. SSA owns Garage Door Design to supply Therma Tech insulated steel doors and other options in sizes from standard residential widths up to doors large enough for combines and big rig trucks. Matching painted finishes keep your building looking clean and intentional.
Perma-Column Foundations
SSA is a Perma-Column partner, offering precast concrete column foundations as an alternative to traditional buried wood posts. Perma-Column eliminates wood-to-soil contact, which is the primary cause of post rot and structural failure in post-frame buildings over time. If you want a building that holds up for generations without foundation concerns, Perma-Column is worth a conversation.
Lean-Tos and Additions
Many Washington pole barn projects include lean-tos on one or both sides for additional covered storage, a sheltered equipment staging area, or a covered porch on a barndominium. SSA designs and builds lean-to additions as part of the original structure or as additions to existing buildings.
