Custom Steel Structures by Steel Structures America

Metal buildings in Idaho have never been in higher demand, and for good reason. Whether you’re a contractor needing a purpose-built shop, a farmer looking to protect expensive equipment, a business owner expanding operations, or a property owner building a barndominium on acreage, a steel building offers a combination of durability, speed, and clear-span usable space that traditional construction simply can’t match. Steel Structures America has been designing and building custom metal buildings across Idaho since 1995, and our Post Falls headquarters puts us right in the heart of the Inland Northwest market we serve.

With more than 15,000 completed buildings across Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Colorado, and Wyoming, SSA is the region’s most experienced metal building contractor. We are not a national kit company or an out-of-state online retailer. We are a locally owned business with local crews, local engineering expertise, and three decades of completed projects across the state.

Why Post Frame

Why Idaho Property Owners Choose Metal Buildings

Idaho’s climate, geography, and land use patterns make steel buildings a natural fit for a wide range of projects. From the snow-heavy panhandle in North Idaho to the wind-driven high desert of the Snake River Plain, a properly engineered metal building handles conditions that would compromise lesser structures over time.
Here is what drives property owners and businesses across Idaho toward metal building construction:

Built for Idaho Weather

Every SSA building is individually engineered to handle the specific snow and wind load requirements of your site, from the Idaho panhandle to the high desert south of Twin Falls.

Fully Custom

Every SSA building is designed from scratch. Size, layout, siding, roofing, overhead doors, insulation, lofts, lean-tos, and more are all specified to fit your property and your goals.

Efficient Build Process

Pre-engineered components and in-house manufacturing streamline construction and reduce delays compared to traditional home builds.

Better Long-term Value

Lower maintenance, durable materials, and efficient construction make post-frame a smarter long-term investment than stick built.

Low Maintenance

No painting, no rot, no termites. Steel structures require virtually zero maintenance year after year.

Purpose Flexibility

Every SSA building is designed from scratch. Size, layout, siding, roofing, overhead doors, insulation, lofts, lean-tos, and more are all specified to fit your property and your goals.

Metal Buildings in Post Falls and North Idaho

SSA’s headquarters are located in Post Falls, Idaho, which puts us at the center of one of the most active building markets in the Inland Northwest. Kootenai County has seen sustained population and commercial growth, and demand for metal buildings in Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, Rathdrum, Hayden, Spirit Lake, and across North Idaho has grown alongside it.

North Idaho’s climate brings specific engineering requirements that SSA understands firsthand. Snow loads in the mountains and valleys of the Idaho panhandle are real, and buildings in North Idaho need to be engineered to handle ground snow loads that vary significantly based on location and elevation. SSA engineers every North Idaho metal building to meet or exceed the requirements for its specific site using Idaho-licensed engineering professionals.

North Idaho property owners benefit from SSA’s local presence in a direct way. Our crews are based here. Our sales team operates out of Post Falls and Sagle. When you work with SSA on a metal building project in North Idaho, you are working with people who live and operate in this market, not a national company routing calls to a distant call center.

Coeur d'Alene & Kootenai County

Snow loads vary by elevation and site. SSA uses Idaho-licensed engineers and the Ground Snow Loads for Idaho reference to correctly calculate structural requirements for every North Idaho build.

Sandpoint, Bonner & Boundary Counties

Our Sagle office serves Sandpoint and the greater Bonner County area. We have extensive experience with the specific code and climate requirements of the northern Idaho panhandle.

Metal Buildings in Boise and the Treasure Valley

The Treasure Valley is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and demand for metal buildings in Boise, Nampa, Caldwell, Meridian, Eagle, Star, and the surrounding communities has grown alongside that expansion. Businesses relocating or expanding in the Treasure Valley need commercial and industrial space quickly, and metal building construction delivers the speed and scale that traditional construction cannot match.

SSA serves the Boise and Treasure Valley market with the same custom-engineered approach we bring to every Idaho project. Southern Idaho’s wind load requirements differ from the snow-focused engineering of North Idaho, and our buildings reflect the specific structural demands of each site’s location. Whether you’re building a contractor shop in Nampa, a commercial warehouse in Caldwell, or an agricultural storage building on acreage outside Boise, SSA designs each building to meet the load requirements of its specific site.

Ada County and Canyon County both require building permits for metal building projects, with submissions requiring stamped engineering drawings. SSA manages the permit process for Treasure Valley clients, navigating Ada County Development Services and Canyon County Building requirements on your behalf.

Building Options

Customize Your Idaho Metal Building

One of the advantages of working with SSA is the depth of customization available. Your building isn’t a catalog item, it’s a custom structure designed around your land, your use case, and your budget. Here is a look at what you can specify.

Metal Siding and Roofing

SSA owns Metal America and offers more than 50 colors and specialty finishes for metal siding and roofing. This includes standard painted steel in colors from ash gray to charcoal, as well as specialty printed finishes including barnwood, brick, and other decorative options. Two-tone combinations with wainscot accents are popular in Idaho and give buildings a finished, polished look.

Overhead Doors

Your overhead door configuration matters as much as your building dimensions. SSA owns Garage Door Design to supply Therma Tech insulated steel doors and other options in sizes from standard residential widths up to doors large enough for combines and big rig trucks. Matching painted finishes keep your building looking clean and intentional.

Perma-Column Foundations

SSA is a Perma-Column partner, offering precast concrete column foundations as an alternative to traditional buried wood posts. Perma-Column eliminates wood-to-soil contact, which is the primary cause of post rot and structural failure in post-frame buildings over time. If you want a building that holds up for generations without foundation concerns, Perma-Column is worth a conversation.

Lean-Tos and Additions

Many Idaho metal buildings include lean-tos on one or both sides for additional covered storage, a sheltered equipment staging area, or a covered porch on a barndominium. SSA designs and builds lean-to additions as part of the original structure or as additions to existing buildings.

Lofts and Interior Finishing

For shop and barndominium projects, SSA can include loft floors, interior wall systems, insulation, and finished interior spaces. If you want a shop with a finished office or apartment above, or a barndominium with a modern interior finish package, we design that into the building from the start.

Insulation Systems

For shops, garages, and living spaces in Idaho’s climate, proper insulation is critical. SSA offers spray foam, fiberglass, and rigid board options appropriate for your building’s use.
