Steel Structures America built this 30′ × 40′ × 16′ insulated shop in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho for a family with big plans and not enough space. With four kids, three dogs, and a home renovation on the horizon, they needed a building that could do more than hold equipment. “We wanted something that kind of grew with our family,” the owner said. “We wanted something that we could just evolve with over time.”
The first problem was getting the renovation started at all. “I wanted to renovate this house and there was too much stuff in this house.” Before a single wall could come down, everything had to go somewhere. The shop made it possible. “We built the biggest shop we could and it really helped with the renovation of the house. We just emptied the house out into the shop, renovated at our leisure.”
Beyond storage, the shop functions as a real workshop. “He wanted a place to kind of call his own and have his own stuff. He’s got tons of tools and he’s got tons of gear.” The family runs five vehicles with over a million combined miles. Having a dedicated space for maintenance changed how they use them. “Having the space gives me so much more flexibility. I can actually work on stuff.”
This was also their first time building a shop. “We never built a shop before. We didn’t really know what we were doing. So, he pointed us the right direction, told us what we needed, sent out a great crew.” The crew delivered. “They work like dogs. They sent out a great crew. Did a great job.”
