This large post-frame building in Priest River Idaho was designed to combine residential living, shop space, and a covered exterior canopy in one efficient structure. The owners needed a versatile layout that would hold up to North Idaho weather while providing room for daily use, storage, and future expansion. The result is a strong, functional building that supports both work and home life.
The building features a 50 × 100 main footprint with 20-foot walls and a 4/12 roof pitch. A 50 × 20 covered canopy runs along one side and uses cedar-wrapped posts for a clean, finished appearance. This canopy adds sheltered outdoor space for year-round use.
Inside, SSA framed ceilings throughout. The shop area features framing spaced 48 inches on-center with a white metal ceiling. The canopy ceiling matches the building’s soffit panels.
The project also includes a full demising wall, various bearing walls, and a loft floor set 12 feet above the main level. The second floor offers more than eight feet of clearance, giving the owners flexibility in the layout. A straight-run stairway connects the two levels.
Full overhangs with metal soffits and fascia improve durability and help move water away from the building.
The covered canopy blends with the main roofline, creating a unified exterior. SSA also framed a 14 × 14 upper deck with LVL supports and proper flashing. A small canopy covers a walk door on the northwest corner.
Posts were set on Perma-Columns®, which keep all wood above grade and improve long-term durability.
A 6-inch concrete slab supports the building. It includes rebar spaced 24 inches on-center, fiber mesh reinforcement, and saw-cut joints. The interior slab is smooth finished for clean interior use. Exterior slabs are broom-finished for traction in wet weather.
This large post-frame building in Priest River Idaho offers long-term strength, flexible space, and clean architectural lines. With engineered framing, durable materials, and a thoughtful layout, it stands ready for many years of residential and shop use.
