This Rural Red residential shop in Sandpoint, ID, brings classic post-frame style together with everyday function.
The 36x48x18 main shop provides tall clearance, open interior space, and easy access for equipment, vehicles, and storage. On both sides, matching 12×48 open lean-tos add covered space without closing in the building footprint.
It is a practical layout for rural properties, giving the owner a protected central shop with extra room along each side for trailers, implements, firewood, or outdoor work areas.
The building uses a gable roof design with a 4:12 pitch and an 18-foot eave height. The tall sidewalls create a spacious interior and allow for two large overhead doors on the front gable end.
Two 12×14 overhead doors provide wide access into the main shop. Two walk-in doors offer convenient daily entry, while four 4×4 white vinyl windows bring natural light into the workspace.
The dual lean-tos give the building a balanced profile and make the exterior space more useful in every season.
Rural Red siding gives this shop a traditional country look, while Charcoal roofing, trim, soffit, fascia, and wainscot add contrast and depth.
The darker wainscot helps ground the building visually and adds protection along the lower wall areas. Together, the color package feels clean, timeless, and well suited for a North Idaho setting.
A 36-inch cupola with a rooster weathervane adds a classic finishing touch at the roofline. The 24-inch overhangs with metal fascia and soffits complete the look while helping protect the wall system.
This shop was built with a Perma-Column® foundation system, which keeps wood posts above grade for long-term protection.
The project also includes a 4-inch concrete slab with fibermesh, creating a solid floor for shop use, storage, and day-to-day work.
Engineered for a 70 psf contract roof snow load, this building is designed for the winter conditions common around Sandpoint and North Idaho.
