Design & Purpose
This 40 × 40 post-frame horse barn in Parker, CO was designed for practical daily use on a rural Elbert County property. The layout supports horse care, equipment storage, and general ranch work. An open lean-to runs the full length of the barn to create shaded outdoor space.
The design keeps the structure clean and functional while using color and trim to add a modern barn look.
Layout & Structure
The main barn measures 40 feet wide by 40 feet long with a 10 foot eave height and a 4:12 gable roof. This footprint leaves room for stalls, a tack area, or a small shop setup.
A 10 foot by 40 foot open lean-to sits along one side with a 3:12 pitch. It stays completely open with no metal soffit, which keeps the framing accessible for future lighting or utilities.
Four 4 foot by 8 foot framed openings were added for Dutch doors. This layout naturally defines stall locations along the wall.
Foundation & Durability
Posts were set on Perma-Columns®, which keep all wood above grade and extend the life of the building. This improves long-term durability and reduces ground-contact concerns.
