Steel Structures America built this 50 × 100 × 16 municipal post-frame shop in Coeur d’Alene, ID for the City of Coeur d’Alene as a durable, high-capacity shop space. With 5,000 square feet of open floor area, the building supports practical use, easy access, and long-term service.
The wide 50-foot span creates a flexible interior for equipment, storage, and daily operations. A 16-foot eave height gives the structure the clearance needed for larger vehicles and work needs.
The building uses a gable roof design with a 4:12 roof pitch. This creates a clean, efficient profile while supporting strong roof performance in North Idaho weather.
The structure includes engineering for a 40 lb. roof snow load and 90 wind shear. It also includes bottom-loaded trusses that can support future insulation and sheetrock. The framing package uses 2 × 6 girts and roof purlins for a solid, dependable shell.
The design includes a framed opening and structural support for large-door access, giving the shop a practical layout for municipal use.
The exterior uses 29-gauge steel roof and wall panels with a 40-year warranty. Koko Brown siding gives the shop a strong, professional look, while Polar White trim adds contrast and clean lines.
The roof includes a condensation-control vapor barrier to help manage moisture under the steel panels. This feature supports better performance in a large shop where temperature changes and interior moisture can affect the roof system.
Access includes one 3-foot insulated walk-in door with a deadbolt and one 14 × 14 white traditional overhead door. The building does not include windows, which supports security and keeps the wall space open for storage, shelving, or equipment.
Crews set the building on 28 Perma-Columns®. This system keeps wood posts above grade, reduces direct ground contact, and helps protect the structure over time.
Crews excavated the post holes by power auger and set the posts with concrete. A 2 × 10 pressure-treated skirt board runs around the base of the building for added protection and a clean lower wall line.
This project combines commercial function with post-frame efficiency. The 50 × 100 footprint provides a large open work area without interior obstructions. The 16-foot height, large overhead door, and engineered gable truss system make it well suited for shop use.
Additional features include a roof vapor barrier, bottom-loaded trusses, 29-gauge steel siding and roofing, and Perma-Column® foundations.
