North Idaho Barndominium Tour Episode 1 | Finished Living Quarters Reveal (Project #12135)

Step inside the finished barndominium living quarters in North Idaho and you’ll see how 900 square feet can feel spacious, elevated, and thoughtfully designed.

Homeowner Shaunceen walks us through the completed living space in Episode 1 of the North Idaho barndominium tour. From the open-plan kitchen and living area to the zen-inspired bathroom and smart storage solutions, this space was built to welcome guests and adapt to changing needs over time.

Designed for Flexibility and Function

Shaunceen originally built these barndominium living quarters in North Idaho with her father in mind. She wanted a single-level space that would be accessible and comfortable. When her father passed away last year, the space was ready to serve a new purpose: hosting friends and family who visit the area.

900 square feet might sound tight, but the vaulted ceilings and open floor plan make it feel much larger. The kitchen flows into the living area. A wide hallway connects front to back. Natural light pours in from large windows that frame mountain views. Guests can work during the day and spend evenings on the covered porch.

Storage and Smart Space Planning

In a 900-square-foot space, storage matters. Shaunceen maximized every opportunity. The single bedroom includes a large closet. A utility room houses a full-size washer and dryer, plus a tucked-away hot water heater. After guests leave, she can pull bedding and have laundry done in the same space.

The bedroom features dual blinds—both sheer and blackout—and an accent wall that was custom-matched with trim work. A local finish carpenter helped execute the details. The result feels polished and intentional.

Elevated Design in a Functional Building

Shaunceen explains that many shops and barns in the area have an agricultural look—blue or green siding with standard metal roofing. She wanted something different. She wanted a structure that looked more residential and felt elevated while still being fully functional.

Steel Structures America delivered. The exterior blends with the property. The interior feels finished and refined. This project shows what’s possible when you think beyond the typical shop build.

Built to Serve Multiple Purposes

These barndominium living quarters in North Idaho could easily serve as a primary residence for retirees or empty nesters. The single-level layout is accessible. The open plan is efficient. The space is move-in ready.

For now, it’s a guest suite. But the flexibility is built in. The design works for many scenarios. That’s the advantage of planning ahead and working with a builder who understands custom builds.

Steel Structures America has been building post-frame and steel structures for over 30 years, with more than 15,000 projects completed across Washington, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Oregon, and Wyoming.
